Geomatics Engineering | The geomatics profession collects, manages, and analyzes geospatial data through ground surveying, photogrammetry, remote sensing, satellite positioning, inertial measurements, echo-sounding, and laser scanning.
The geomatics major for bachelor degree of China University of Petroleum was established in 1988. At present, it is the national-grade first class bachelor degree. This bachelor degree in our university is mainly focusing in the fields of ocean science, petroleum resources and social services. The involved technologies include 3S-GNSS、remote sensing and geographic information science. The major is mainly applying in the field of ocean information, digital oil field, smart ocean, smart city, satellite navigation, underwater navigation, ocean remote sensing, earthquake remote sensing, gravity inversion, coastline extraction, 3D geo-modelling and visualization, and so on. We still have higher degrees for master and doctor degrees. There are 6 major laboratories and several practice stations.
The employment rates of this major during recent 5 years are all higher than 90%. Geographic information science | Geographic information science (GIS) are the collection of software, hardware, outputs, personnel, and practices that together facilitate the analysis and mapping of geographic entities and phenomena. The field of geographic information science (GIScience) broadly explores the theory and concepts underpinning GIS and related geospatial technologies such as remote sensing and the Global Positioning System (GPS).
The GIS major for bachelor degree of China University of Petroleum was established in 2001. At present, it is the province-grade first class bachelor degree. The major courses are related to the geomatics, geographic and computer science. The student in this major will study basic theory and also train operational ability. The core courses include principle of geographic information system, cartology, principle and application of remote sensing, principle and application of satellite positioning, digital topographic survey, GIS application development, GIS spatial analysis and so on. We still have higher degrees for master and doctor degrees. There are 6 major laboratories and several practice stations.
