Prof. Luísa Bastos from University of Porto was invited to give an academic report to our teachers and students

On the morning of May 9, Prof. Luísa Bastos of University of Porto, Portugal was invited by Prof. Kaifei He, to give an academic report entitled “Satellite positioning at the palm of our hands: looking to present and future of mapping & navigation”, and conducted academic exchanges with participating teachers and students. The report was hosted by Prof. Kaifei He.



In the report, Prof. Luísa Bastos introduced the current situation of the development of the mass market from today 's GNSS and today 's smartphones firstly. Afterwards, Prof. Luísa Bastos introduced recent application examples based on the potential of smartphones. Then, Prof. Luísa Bastos introduced detailly some research results of the University of Porto. Moreover, Prof. Luísa Bastos talked about the prospect of short to medium term satellite positioning, and pointed out that PNT services are changing the way to move and map our planet. Finally, there was a lively exchange and discussion with teachers and students such as Kaifei He and Yan Xu who participated in the lecture.



Prof. Luísa Bastos is an outstanding geodesy and satellite navigation and positioning expert in Portugal and a part-time professor at Shandong University. She was the Chief Scientist of the University of Porto School of Science, Director of the Porto Observatory, and Chairman of the Academic Committee of the Center for Ocean Research and Innovation of the University of Porto. She chaired nearly 40 EU and international projects with more than 30 million euros in research funding, covering land, navigation, aerospace and other fields. She published more than 150 papers and was invited to speak at many important international conferences. She is a leading figure in many scientific research fields such as navigation, surveying and mapping, and environment in Portugal.
