From June 18th to 21st, the 2023 CPGIS "GO-HOME" Qingdao Geographic Information Science Academic Forum was successfully held at China University of Petroleum (East China). This forum was organized by the International Chinese Association for Geographic Information Science (CPGIS), hosted by the College of Oceanography and Space Informatics at China University of Petroleum (East China), co-organized by the Information Technology Professional Committee of the China Society of Oceanography and Limnology, the Education and Development Professional Committee of the China Satellite Navigation and Positioning Association, the Geographic Modeling and Geographic Information Analysis Professional Committee of the Geographical Society of China, and the Qingdao Geographical Society. The theme of the forum was "Applications of Spatial Information Technology in Natural Environment and Sustainable Development". 9 experts and scholars from the United States, Australia, Singapore, and China were invited to give presentations. The forum was conducted online and offline simultaneously, with more than 2,500 participants in total.

Zhang Jie, the dean of the College of Oceanography and Space Informatics, delivered the welcome speech, expressing a sincere welcome to the experts from home and abroad. He thanked the experts for their long-term care and support for our university and the college, and looked forward to strengthening cooperation and communication between the college and domestic and foreign universities, research institutions, and experts and scholars.

Prof. Shixiong Hu, the chairman of the CPGIS "Go Home" Committee and a lifelong professor at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony, thanking China University of Petroleum (East China) for its strong support for the forum and introducing the original intention and development process of CPGIS GO HOME. Prof. Bin Zou from the School of Earth Sciences and Information Physics at Central South University presented a report titled "Research Progress and Reflections on the Empowerment of Environmental Monitoring and Regulation by Spatiotemporal Big Data." The forum focused on the research progress made by domestic and international experts in the field of geographic information science in recent years. The presentations were brilliant, and there was enthusiastic exchange on-site.

After the forum, leaders from the College of Oceanography and Space Informatics and some teachers from the Surveying Department held a symposium with the CPGIS "Go Home" guests to have in-depth discussions on the latest developments and applications of geographic information and remote sensing science. Both parties expressed their willingness to jointly promote the development of the Yellow River Basin Ecological Remote Sensing and Green Development Collaborative Innovation Center, and strengthen cooperation in scientific research projects and talent cultivation.

The International Chinese Association for Geographic Information Science (CPGIS) is an international academic organization founded by Chinese GIS scholars at the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1992. Its aim is to strengthen communication and cooperation between Chinese scholars engaged in geographic information systems and science both domestically and abroad, and to promote the development of geographic information science. CPGIS "GO-HOME" is one of the flagship activities of CPGIS and an important means of communication with the domestic academic community.
